TECH TIP: Getting the Shot with Corey Rich: What’s in My Winter Bag?

by Corey Rich

Winter is one of the most beautiful—if challenging—seasons for getting outdoors and making pictures. It’s also one of my favorite seasons to make pictures – sadly we never really got a winter this year in California. I love how the combination of low winter light and beautiful snowy landscapes can yield fantastic and memorable photographs. However, the frigid and variable elements can present a unique set of challenges for photographers.

In my latest episode of Getting the Shot for Adorama TV, I take a couple of minutes to answer one of the most common questions I receive, which is, “What’s in your winter bag?”

I share my tips for packing for winter, beginning with what kind of pack works best in snowy environments, to my choices for lenses and how to keep them clean and dry from snow, to how to dress in order to keep yourself comfortable and focused on creativity.

The take away is, shooting in the winter can be really enjoyable. Just make sure you pack correctly.
