LATEST WORK: Nikon/Big Up Productions – Video

by Corey Rich

Over the last 20 years, my true passion has been visual storytelling and finding new ways to add richness to the presentation. Early on, I made many attempts at synching multiple slide projectors with mixed audio tracks. This is much harder than it sounds. 🙂 I now find myself in an entirely new technological environment. With digital cameras, digital recording devices and video editing software, we are entering an era where the only limit is one’s creativity.

Much of my work lately has incorporated video. While I am still primarily called upon to shoot still photography, more often, clients are asking me to capture video on the same shoot. This is thanks, in part, to the new wave of DSLRs – still cameras with HD video capabilities. I recently traveled to Yosemite with a Nikon D90 to document my dear friend Tommy Caldwell in his attempt to free climb, Mescalito, potentially the longest and hardest route on the planet. Along with an unbelievable progression in the sport of rock climbing, we are as well, seeing the future of photography and video technology.

What’s certainly clear is that my future will be a mix of shooting still photography and video. In fact, as I post this, I’m simultaneously packing for a 10 day, six city, four country still and video shoot. It will be my first project with the brand new Nikon D300S.

This clip, along with additional footage, will appear this fall in the upcoming film “Progression” by Big Up Productions.
