Over a decade ago, I moved to Tahoe because it’s one of the most epic places to live for climbing, biking, skiing, running, swimming and adventure.

But it was the tight-knit community of like-minded souls that has kept me here for so long. Tahoe is comprised of many fantastic individuals who are doing the best work of their lives while balancing their passion to be outdoors, with good friends and family.

One of the first Tahoe locals I ever met was Amy McCormick, who was working at the Kirkwood Ski School and Expedition Kirkwood. At the time, I was just beginning to shoot still photo campaigns for Kirkwood Mountain. And it was here, on some of the best ski slopes in California, that Amy (as a ski athlete) and I (as a photographer) first started working together.

Eventually, after 13 years at the Kirkwood Ski School and Expedition Kirkwood, Amy shifted roles to work in marketing under the legendary John Wagnon at Heavenly Mountain Resort. Ever since then, I’ve heard John rave about her great work ethic and bright personality.

John was never just a client to me; he quickly became a mentor and friend. He remains one of the most gifted creatives I’ve worked with, and his passion for details, authenticity and excellence are all attributes that I’ve tried to emulate.

Fast-forward to now.

Recently, John called me in for a lunch to let me know that he would soon be retiring from his role presiding over the Vail Resorts’ marketing department in Tahoe (Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood). Over a half dozen tacos, we rehashed all the great stories and times we’ve spent together over the years.

But in the back of my mind, I was wondering what would become of Amy.

I couldn’t help myself but ask. In the most politically correct manner I could fashion, I asked John if, after he left, we might be able to approach Amy casually with a serious offer to join our team.

Without hesitation, he said, “of course.” We asked, and, sure enough, Amy quickly decided to join our team! We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Amy McCormick to the Corey Rich Productions family as our new Production & Marketing Coordinator.

Amy has been living in Tahoe since 1993, when she moved here from the Bay Area. She originally only planned to stay here one year, but 23 years later, she continues to enjoy this area as if it’s her first season. She graduated in 1997 from Sierra Nevada College with a BFA in painting, taught skiing the following winter,  and then went on to work in the ski industry for 20 years, building a fantastic, professional background in marketing and management.

Did I mention that she’s a badass skier, too? A member of the K2 Women’s Alliance Team, Amy rips every weekend in the winter, coaching women’s-specific ski programs and sharing her ski stoke with other likeminded women. In the summer, she’s an avid fly fisherwoman and golfer.

All I can say is that I’m happy Amy is here. There’s an enormous amount of confidence, security, and joy that comes from working with someone you know and trust, who you’ve respected for a long time, and who you know will bring her commitment to excellence and passion for the outdoors to her work with us.

Welcome to the CRP family, Amy!
