LATEST WORK: Polartec® – Layer Up™ Video

Aurora Novus was tasked by Polartec®, a leading manufacturer of performance fabrics, to capture the Polartec® line in use by real athletes in harsh, outdoor environments. Polartec®, the only fabric company to offer a complete layering system (base, insulation and protection), wanted a new visual tool to show how the layering system works.

Given my history in the adventure world and my passion for telling stories in sub-zero temperatures, I got the call. I immediately dove into building the concept with the team at Aurora Novus and my longtime friend and collaborator, Josh Lowell. Having been given an enormous amount of creative freedom by both Polartec® and Aurora Novus, Josh and I  began storyboarding and defining the selective color effect, providing a modern and graphic look to highlight the product. With a plan of attack and several duffle bags of wardrobe, we were on our way. I joined Josh and his brother, Brett Lowell, to capture the rock climbing sequences of our dear friend and world-class climber Tommy Caldwell on El Capitan. Then, I continued on my own to shoot running in the Marin Headlands in San Francisco, as well as ice climbing and snowshoeing in the Sierras. The bulk of the skiing content was shot by Rex Lint, with additional footage by Greg Von Doersten and Trevor Clark, all three, Aurora contributors. I rounded out the skiing footage with some pick-ups shot in Tahoe. Once we stepped out of the elements and into the edit room, all of the planning and hard work in the field paid off and the Polartec® Layer Up™ story was born.
