Over the last few years, Tommy Caldwell has spent countless days high on El Cap working the ultimate project. Much of this time in the beginning was spent alone using a mini traxion which allows him to climb solo. Originally shrouded in secrecy, its potential unknown, his progress on freeing El Cap's Dawn Wall has now created quite a buzz. Only a few key pitches stand between Tommy and climbing partner Kevin Jorgeson from sending what has been billed as the longest and hardest route on the planet.
Last spring, I traveled to the Valley to witness Tommy and Kevin make some serious progress. The newest cover of Climbing features one of my photos from this trip, showing Kevin on lead as Tommy belays from the portaledge below. Be sure to grab a copy to read Dougald MacDonald's story and see a few more of my photos.
I'll be back there with them next month filming and shooting stills, as well as cheering them on as they attempt to send the route. Stay tuned for more details later this fall.
