Exciting news this week from Nikon! The D610, an update to the fast and light D600, will be available on October 18 from Adorama.

As an adventure photographer and filmmaker, I am fortunate that most of my work takes me to remote, far-flung, achingly beautiful locations around the globe. It’s a truism of photography that having the right gear often makes the difference between success and failure, and that is true whether you’re shooting adventure or in the studio. Due to my needs in the field, I am extremely conscious of choosing gear that is lightest, smallest, most efficient and best in its class.

For me, the Nikon D600 really hit that sweet spot of being one of the lightest full-frame video-enabled HD-SLR cameras on the market. It’s one of the reasons I chose to bring the D600 with me when I climbed Trango Tower in the Karakoram mountains of Pakistan with world-class alpinists David Lama and Peter Ortner in 2011.

The D610 is distinguished by increased speed boosts, quiet burst mode, and improved AF performance. The D610 comes in at a sub-$2,000 price range, which is a great deal for a full-frame Nikon camera. And the price of the still-great D600 has been dropped to $1,896.95.
