COOL STUFF: The Cherry Bowl Experience

by Corey Rich

I was stumbling around the internet when I came across “The Cherry Bowl Experience” on Vimeo, which is one of the more riveting stories and beautifully shot ski films I’ve seen. In eight minutes, it tells this incredible tale about rescuing four skiers caught in the mother of all avalanches and, well, you need to watch it yourself to see what happens.

But what was so funny about the experience was, as I was sitting there watching this film and admiring its storytelling, I naturally wondered who was responsible for this brilliant work. Then, of course, I realized it was made by very good friend Rex Lint, a guy who I’ve been spending a lot of time with recently working on various big projects.

We all probably know a guy like this: someone who is so talented but almost goes out of his way to not brag about himself. Those are the best kind of people, I think. And since Rex is too humble to brag about himself, I’m going to do it for him.

Rex embodies a passion for skiing unlike anyone else. There are guys who move to ski towns for a season or two after college, and then there are lifers like Rex, who arrange their lives to maximize time in the mountains and go skiing as much as possible.

Rex is a super gifted filmmaker and editor—he really lives up to that now-cliché word “storyteller.” We’ve traveled around the world together, and he’s been a partner in crime on some of the biggest projects I’ve ever been involved with. He’s always positive, never says anything negative about any of his colleagues, and he’s one of the funniest people I know.

Anyway, I invite you to dive deep into the Cherry Bowl Experience, and immerse yourself in this series that was captured for Avalanche Canada but was really born out of Rex’s passion for skiing and storytelling. Great job, Rex, and the rest of the team at Tin House Creative.

What a wonderful story of rescue. Thank you to the rescuers! And it is nice to know that Rex is continuing his family’s compassion and care for others and to education. I know his Grandmother Nancy was truly proud of him! Blessings.
