Road Runner Sports - New Look

Readers of the Road Runner Sports catalog were recently treated to something a bit different - the cover had been turned on its side. Not only did this offer a nice change from the norm, it also provided a new way to feature one of my images from the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.

Next week we head to Breckenridge, CO to shoot for the 2009 winter catalog. No, that isn't a typo, that's the nature of the catalog business. With my camera, some creativity and a bit of snow left in the mountains, we can make magic!

The Oprah Magazine - Project Bandaloop

As a nice surprise, one of my stock images ran in the April 2009 issue of The Oprah Magazine. It's always nice to see adventure images make their way into mainstream media. PDN - Interview

Nine months ago, I read a short story in Time magazine which extolled the virtues of the new Nikon D90 – a DSLR with the ability to capture HD video. I immediately called Nikon. I wanted to see this for myself.

Later that week, carrying no more than a camera body and a few lenses, my Studio Director, Blaine Deutsch and I set off to shoot a test piece – a look behind the scenes at Corey Rich Photography. After the first take, I quickly realized the amazing potential in this new camera. The image quality is phenomenal. The look of a million dollar production from a camera that costs less than $900.

Since that day, this camera has been used much more as we change the way we approach assignments. It’s amazing to think that we now can now capture the assets of a print campaign and a TV spot with a single camera.

Mountain Gear - Cover

The newest Mountain Gear catalog features my image of Bob Porter climbing Zodiac in Yosemite National Park. This image is of special importance to me, as I credit Bob for introducing me to the world of climbing. Nearly 20 years ago, he had to courage to rope up with an un-experienced 13 year old. For this, I am eternally grateful, as that day set the course for the rest of my life. Thanks Bob!
