Outside - Where to Live Now

For their August issue, the editors of Outside have chosen Oakland, CA as one of America's top cities in which to live.
To illustrate this, the cover features my image of Zack Grossman running in the East Bay Hills. This area is home to
a storied network of trails overlooking Oakland and the San Francisco Bay area.

I originally shot this image while on assignment for Trail Runner magazine shooting a story on East Bay trail running. The two day shoot produced some great images from the area. This particular image was shot on the University of California at Berkeley campus, near the science department.

Rowell Lecture Event with Greg Mortenson

Please join me on September 24th for a special Rowell Lecture event, “AN EVENING WITH GREG MORTENSEN” a reception and program with the co-founder of the Central Asia Institute and best-selling co-author of Three Cups of Tea as he pays tribute to his friends Galen and Barbara Rowell and discusses his life’s work in promoting education and literacy, especially for girls, in the remote mountain regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. This is of particular interest to me, as I am honored to be a member of the Rowell Legacy Committee, as well as a judge on the panel of The Rowell Award. This award honors the adventurer whose artistic passion illuminates the wild places of the world, and whose accomplishments significantly benefit both the environment and the peoples who inhabit these lands and regions.
